Associate Marriage & Family Therapist and
I am an artist and therapist with a Master's degree in Marriage & Family Therapy/Art Therapy from Notre Dame de Namur University. For 25 years I worked in education teaching children ranging from kindergarten to High School. I loved watching the children light up and how open they are to the world. I also raised four of my own children with my husband of 25 years. When I was a new mother, I moved to Spain with my husband and had to explore a new culture on my own with my new baby. I fell in love with being there after stepping out of my own comfort zone and having to learn the culture and ask for help from the community.
I love working with children of all ages, particularly teens and young adults. I help them to open up by using a combination of narrative therapy, mindfulness, and art therapy. This is a particularly useful tool to get them out of their head and help quiet the critical voice of being judged. Art therapy helps to access a different part of the brain than talk therapy, therefore, giving them the potential to thrive internally and externally. I strongly believe that people are not defined by their problems and everyone has the capacity to achieve their fullest potential. My work focuses on building self-compassion through self-care. I will often give homework or strategies that help my clients thrive.
What I love about being an art therapist is that it allows me to continue to dabble is all the creative arts. I love water colors, textile arts, clay, and collage. Art has the ability to heal, transform, soothe and create new insights. Art therapy is a guided creative process that can be used to enhance a person’s emotional, spiritual, social, cognitive, and physical well-being.
While I work with people of all ages, I specialize in adolescents, young adults and women who are dealing with grief & loss, eating disorders, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and more.
